Giovanni Battista Sammartini (ca. 1698 – 1775 in Milan) was an Italian composer, organist, choirmaster & teacher. He counted Gluck among his students, and was himself the prolific composer of operas, symphonies (over lxx), concertos and chamber music, which show, the symphonies especially, a beginnings of a vary from either a brief opera-overture style & the introduction of a fresh seriousness & utilise of thematic development that prefigure Haydn and Mozart.
